Four Brothers - Family Portrait Photo Shoot /  by Jan

I think I’ve set a record for a family shoot with the tallest average. But seriously, look at these brothers, aren’t they just an adorable bunch?

This was a very short notice family portrait shoot, since the oldest brother, just 16 years old was heading to Latvia to play basketball for the national team. So the mom (who’s pictured in photos below and coming in at a way shorter height!) decided to get these family photos while they’re all still together.

I decided to go to my favourite spot for family portraits; Fitzgerald’s. It’s just a perfect spot for these portrait photo shoots! There are a load of different backgrounds in a small area, it’s central in the city and easy to get to, plus, everyone knows where it is!

I have been so blessed this year with amazing weather as well. I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been with sunshine! So we used that to our advantage and got these lovely, sunny family shots!

And for being teenagers, man were they easy to deal with and up for anything. I usually get on really well with teenagers and kids, but these guys were just great. I loved they’re little interactions in the photos, especially with the youngest brother. It’s moments like these that make me wish I had one or several brothers!

After some posed photos, I thought it would be a good time to head to the playground and get some action shots! They’re always nice photos to get and the prospect of some fun later on, makes the posed shots go by easier for some reason.

I’m so happy how well these family photos came out. Being faced with having to photograph three teenagers and a child, you never know how things are going to turn out, but this shoot could literally not have gone any better!

Ayman and Jane - Wedding Afterpary in Cork city /  by Jan

This is a wedding?! Yes! Well.. No. But it is a wedding celebration!

Ayman and Jane, both hailing from Ballinlough are now living in London for many years. Where, they had their actual wedding ceremony. But to celebrate with friends and family back home in Cork, they rented out The Bodega in the city centre and that’s where I come into the picture (pun very much intended)!

I purposefully arrived a little later to give all the guests a moment to settle and arrive and have a drink already. So the chats and the party was already well under way when I arrived. My objective for this was simple; just capture the fun that everyone is having. Well, and maybe encourage people to go a little further, like in the following photos.

This wedding celebration was a lovely reminder on how uncomplicated weddings have become. There is no longer the need to do the standard wedding celebration, and couples are really making their weddings their own. I love to see a genuine wedding that suits the couple so well! Even though this was essentially just the afters.

They were a great couple though, and I wish they had gotten married in Cork instead of London! I would have loved to have photographed the actual celebration.

Cadence Design Systems Cork- Corporate Event Photography /  by Jan

The bowler is running in confidently. His leg outstretched in front of him. He lands on the line perfectly. The cricket ball, elegantly held in his right hand, now swings around from the back over the shoulder, is released, a puff of dust where it bounces, swings in. Stumps are smashed. Bails go flying. Out.

Shouts of “How’s thaaaaat?!” Everyone not from a cricketing nation is confused, “Is that out? What does that mean? What do we do now?” General confusion grows even wider as the bowler is drowned in celebrations by people who grew up watching cricket. Five minutes later, “Ok, you didn’t know the rules, stay in. But remember, protect the stumps!”

We’re at the Cork County Cricket Club in Cork city. A lovely spot, right next to Fitzgerald’s park. The occasion? Well, the billion dollar, multinational company, Cadence Design Systems, is hosting their first BBQ in Cork for their employees and families. Having only recently moved to Cork city, they never had the opportunity to host their annual event due to the pandemic. So it was time to make up for it and I was thrilled to be there!

It was a beautifully sunny day. There was a BBQ, bouncy castles for the kids, a DJ, drinks, face paint and more! And what turned out to be one of the attractions for the kids, turned into the biggest game of the day; cricket.

With employees coming from all over the world, from the usual European countries like Spain and Italy, to further abroad like India and Nigeria, there were so many nationalities present. But with a core group coming from India though, the cricket ball couldn’t be left alone and soon, everyone was being taught how to play this rather odd game. Growing up in South Africa, I knew all the rules, so even I jumped in to help out with explaining. It seemed like a solid foundation of hurling helped massively.

This gig just went from photographing a normal corporate event with speeches and formal affairs, to full on sports photography! What a laugh!

In-between playing and photographing the match, I went off to photograph other happenings and groups of people enjoying this lovely event. And then, sure enough, went back to the cricket. Rinse and repeat.

I don’t remember the last time I met so many friendly people from so many different countries. It was great fun to meet so many different people. Plus photographing it all was so much fun too, and I think that really shows in the photos. They’re just fun photos of a very fun event. Simple as.
