Event photography is my speciality and what I enjoy photographing most. From moody theatre stages to churches to brightly lit exhibition spaces, it can be a fast-paced environment where missed opportunities are abundant. It can also be intimate and quiet, where discretion and awareness is needed. Live events need a photographer that is on top of their game and always in the right place, at the right time.
Event photography is all about capturing those perfect moments, if it’s the singing and dancing or the blowing out of candles. Those moments only last for a split second.

Live Event Photography / Music Festival and Concert Photography
Music is booming and the crowd is loud. The performers are on stage. They are cabaret artists, circus performers, comedians, dancers, drag queens, singers, musicians, etc. It’s important to photograph that hair flick just right, get the audience’s surprised reaction, their delight. These moments won’t repeat themselves.
I love working on instinct and reacting instantaneously to these moments. Being an event photographer is exciting, even if it is tricky, since all factors are out of my hands. But this is the environment I thrive in and that I enjoy. It’s a lot of fun to capture the crowd’s emotions and the performances on stage.
Performance Art and Art Exhibition Photography
Photographing art performances is a slightly different experience. Discretion is usually required to not distract the audience. Comparing it to a concert, where the music is loud and the audience is dancing, where I can run around as much as I want. Not here, here I set my camera to a silent mode and am mindful of the audience around me. These performances are so different and refreshing to be a part of.
Photographing art performances is one thing, but photographing exhibitions requires a totally different set of skills. It’s more akin to the real estate photography I also do. The importance here is to find the right mix of portraying the art on display and their colours correctly, yet also conveying the mood and the environment in a pleasant way.
