J&M - Wedding Photography / by Jan

This was such a special wedding to photograph, due to the venue. Although being religious, J & M decided against having their wedding in a church. Instead, the wedding took place at the groom’s family home in the countryside, in the north of Germany, almost in Denmark. With a large lawn that hosted the aisles, made of folding chairs, with the ‘altar’ at the foot of the large acorn tree. From the get go, this was a very personalized wedding. From the venue to the ceremony, it was all uniquely theirs. Having also lucked out with the weather, with such a lovely, sunny day, this was a day to remember!

Married at the foot of an acorn tree.

A unique venue for a couple that made their wedding day their own.

Before the wedding ceremony

As both groom and bride were getting ready, those last minute nerves started setting it. This is such a common phenomenon, and one that I think a lot of couples can feel incredibly guilty of. But rest assured, it is incredibly common and normal. I think it reflects positively on the person and how important the occasion is to them.

The following black and white photos were taken just minutes apart. With these photographs, I managed to capture the last minute nerves that were now fully apparent. Both the bride and the groom were still wearing their engagement rings, feeling naked without. In a short while, they would be happily wearing their wedding rings for the very first time and sharing a surname. This is what wedding photography is all about!

The groom received some comforting words from his parents just before the wedding ceremony. It clearly made all the difference and he resumed his relaxed and happy self. Sometimes we all just need some parental advice and comfort at the right time.

The Wedding Ceremony

J & M decided to do things a little differently and walk down the aisle together, even though both parents were present. I love it when couples change little aspects of their wedding day to suit their own style and idea of what they want. It’s a little detail that I really like and haven’t seen at any other wedding thus far.

With the “I do’s” settled and no objections from the guests, the first kiss (pictured at the beginning of this post) was followed by this joyful embrace. Weddings are always joyful occasions, but this genuine happiness is always so refreshing to photograph and witness.

The Couple Photoshoot

Post-wedding ceremony, I let the couple have their own little moment first. They ran off, somewhere private. The guests can wait after all! They just had a moment to process their commitment to each other and to enjoy some time on their own.

After a few minutes we ran off into the fields and woods for the couple photoshoot! With the farmers’ fields, the woods and the coast all to my disposal, we had quite the choice in terms of backgrounds. But these natural moments, as the groom was picking wildflowers for the bride, are such special moments I couldn’t ignore. These photos really round off the couple photos nicely.

Returning to the farmhouse, the guests were waiting patiently to continue the festivities with the couple. Food was served and drinks poured into the evening. And at the end of the night, the couple had to merely walk a couple of feet to their bedroom, before heading off to their honeymoon the next day. What a venue!
